It's been a while since my last blogpost and the reason is simple: I've been working hard on the aircraft editor!
At first I didn't think it would be much work: I already built a simple editor for building my own aircraft. But once I started working, it soon became clear that this would be a large task when done properly. An aircraft simply has too many parameters.
Anyway, most of the hurdles have been taken now and it's almost ready to go into public beta. You can do everything from within the editor except building the actual 3D model. But there are enough freeware programs to do that a lot better than I ever could.
If a picture says more than a 1,000 words than a video tells....
In resumé the editor allows you to:
- Create animations of all moving parts;
- Determine attributes of the flight model, including full control of the lift/drag coefficients;
- Determine interaction with the ground;
- Create variations of existing aircraft;
Oh, and while I was working on the editor, I added an extra feature to the sim: flaps and retractable landing gear!
